Vocal Ensemble Quink consists of five professional Dutch singers. They made their debut in 1978 at the Holland Festival. Quink mainly sings a cappella repertoire, but from various style periods. For this CD they chose repertoire of contemporary Dutch composers. Ton de Leeuw's "Missa brevis" dates from 1953. In addition to elements from Gregorian chant, the mass also contains style features of the
… early Renaissance polyphony. You can also listen to Van De Leeuw: "And does not fail me", "Egidius, waer bestu stayed", "Het visschertje" and "Prière". Daan Manneke composed several works for Quink: "Madrigaal le città sottili" and "Due canti". "When ghy van de doodt sult his grim" is a poem by Pieter Roemer Visscher (17th century). It has been set to music by Huub Kerstens, as well as "Les mortels" to a poem by Chateaubriand. Both works had never been released on CD before. Performance and choice of repertoire make this CD worth listening to. (LW) _more
