Philip Pickett and the New London Consort perform two sacred works by Vivaldi that he wrote for the Pietà 's orphans. The energetic Dixit Dominus RV.595 and the pastoral Gloria RV.588 are both introduced by a short cantata-like piece for solo voice and string orchestra, respectively the Ascende Laeta RV.635 for soprano and the Jubilate O Amoeni Chori RV.639 for alto. … Christopher Robson does not sound well everywhere. Catherine Bott's soprano voice, on the other hand, impresses with flexibility and clear sound despite an English accent. Pickett's interpretation is light and friendly, which sometimes does the music insufficient. For example, the relatively quickly performed Et In Terra Pax (Gloria) breathes too little mystique: Pickett's peace seems to descend on a pleasant world where everyone is nice to each other; it is not peace that gives man comfort in the most difficult moments of his life.
