Franz Schubert's songs for choir have generally received less attention than, for example, his songs or piano music. Nevertheless, during the 16 years of his creative career he wrote some 130 completed works for various choirs. The Arnold Schoenberg Chor led by Erwin Ortner released a box of 7 CDs with the "complete secular choral works". During the programming, it has been decided to exclude works
… with a strictly liturgical character (other vocal works with a religious character are therefore included). Furthermore, it has been decided not to record those works that are clearly written for solo voices (D.37, D.666 and D.930). Fragmentary surviving works are generally not included either.more
