Einojuhani Rautavaara is currently the most famous living Finnish composer and perhaps the most important Finnish composer since Sibelius. Rautavaara became known for works such as the "Symphony no.7" with the subtitle "Angel of light", the concert for birds and orchestra "Cantus articus" and the choral work "Vigilia". Rautavaara, however, also wrote simpler repertoire. An example of this are the
… songs for male choir a cappella, as they can be heard on the double CD "Book of life: Complete songs for male voice choir". The works are performed by the Amici Cantus ensemble conducted by Hannu Norjanen. (HJ) _more
