In the fall of 2016, a special Catholic mass took place, organized by . He christened this 'event' Missa in Mysterium. Mystery: he wanted to bring that back to 'his' mass - especially by having the entire mass sung, without a sermon, and with as little spoken word as possible. And especially with a lot of Gregorian chant, that age-old music that has sounded in churches for more than 1000 years.
And Finkers' initiative was successful: he will not have seen such a full church often, and now there is also a CD, In Mysterium, almost entirely filled with Gregorian chant. The ladies of the Dutch ensemble , who have never sung Gregorian chant before, do it on this CD, just like during mass, beautifully cared for and with an eye for detail. The repertoire is also interesting and carefully chosen. Most of the CD is filled with songs for Mass. We hear melodies from the earliest history of Gregorian chant, as well as hymns that originated later in the Middle Ages. Where Herman Finkers immersed the audience in Gregorian chant with his Mass, he introduces us here in a more systematic way to the richness of music. A special addition to the discography of Gregorian chant. (TC)more
