For the performance of the music of Hildegard von Bingen, the recordings of ensemble Sequentia have been leading for some thirty years. However, many other voices and interpretations have been heard over the years. Sabine Lutzenberger now adds a nice new recording to this extensive discography. She has had an impressive career in early music, singing, for example, with the Ensemble für frühe Musik
… Augsburg and the Huelgas Ensemble. This experience can be clearly heard on this CD, both in terms of performance and composition. Both stem from a series of concerts she gave in Europe from the summer of 2012, including during the Early Music Festival in Utrecht. Those who attended know how wonderful it is to hear only a single voice for a concert. And actually she is also the most beautiful, completely solo, on this CD on tracks 1 and 9. On the other tracks we hear, to my taste, some cliché accompaniment by string instruments and bells. But that is a minor complaint (and one that applies to almost all recordings) with a beautiful CD.
