Small gifts, is the much too modest title of this CD by recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger. We only find two Brandenburg concerts, a recorder concert and a cantata here. Oberlinger has appropriated those last two works. The recorder concerto is an arrangement of the Harpsichord concerto BWV 1056. In the cantata Vergnügte Ruh, the organ part was transformed into a recorder solo. music lends itself
… well to such arrangements. And then the Second Brandenburg concert (also on this CD), in which the trumpet, oboe, recorder and violin constantly challenge each other as equal partners. A very colorful program, with colorful music. But also with a few popular highlights. Think for example of the intimate Largo from the Concert BWV 1056. Or the top hit Jesus bleibet meine Freude (the unsurpassed Jesu, joy of man's desiring) with which this CD ends, it could not be missed. Last but not least: is the vocal soloist in the mentioned cantata and the various arias. (HJ)more
