Raymond van het Groenewoud has been one of the most important pop artists in Flanders for many years and is also very popular in the Netherlands. His breakthrough came during the new wave period that followed punk in the early eighties. Van het Groenewoud was the Flemish equivalent of the 'angry young men' from England (Elvis Costello, Graham Parker and Joe Jackson) and initially also used the same
… musical idiom. Later he just as easily adopted exotic styles such as the chachacha (in the song of the same name) and gospel (the hit Love For Music). One of his albums can still be heard as a musical potpourri in which the only constant is the typical - alternately supercooled and inspired - performance by Van het Groenewoud. In the lyrics more and more a melancholic undertone can be discerned, but he ensures that this does not get the upper hand anywhere: irony lurks everywhere. He proves that he has not yet lost his passion for experimentation in the more than six-minute release, which clearly shows influences from contemporary dance music.
