As a true artist of life, the singer and poet Alex Roeka surrenders to the vibrant life without hesitation and translates his experiences into his music. On the album Beet Van Liefde, Roeka tells in his autobiographical lyrics candidly about his deep love for a new woman, which even makes him decide to leave his wife and child and move to Antwerp. Roeka sings in beautiful words about the wonderful
… intoxication of falling in love and the sensual lovemaking, but also about his feelings of vulnerability, guilt and doubt about the correctness of his decision. The first of the eighteen tracks captures the essence of the album: what is that love? The hardcover CD booklet, in which the lyrics are graced with beautiful photos by Karoly Effenberger, reads like a full collection of poems. And yet the hoarse voice of Roeka and musical accompaniment of guitar, piano, accordion or hammond organ give the lyrics an extra emotional charge. Roeka is the place to be for honest and pure 'dutch blues'. (SvdP)more
