He had been working as a musician for thirty years, but with his albums (2009) and (2011) Guido Belcanto grew into a Flemish folk hero. It is high time to fulfill long cherished dreams. For Belcanto it was to record an album with a mechanical organ specially built for him by the Decap company from Herentals. As a boy, his grandfather, a true bon vivant, took him to illustrious ballrooms with names
… such as De Salamander and De Veertien Billekenswhere the audience danced to the sounds of the Decap organ. The Decap family has been building mechanical organs since 1901 and the fourth generation assists Belcanto on this album. The organ merges with Belcanto's characteristically sonorous voice and its melancholic, ironic lyrics. Anyone who thinks that mechanical organs are for the museum should definitely give this album a listen, because Guido Belcanto convincingly breathes new life into this unique tradition. (PdK)more
