Max Raabe received a classical education at the conservatory in Berlin, but found that his love for popular music from the 1920s was greater. So big that he founded the Palast Orchester in 1986 with other graduates. Fortunately, baritone Raabe has a beautiful full crooner voice. The singer and his 'big band', dressed in appropriate style - dress suit, hair combed back with gel - revive old times
… during their concerts. They mainly perform music from Germany, but also American music by Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, among others. New songs and covers of contemporary pop songs are also given a stylistic makeover. On the DVD Eine Nacht In Berlin you will understand why Raabe and his Palast Orchester are so popular worldwide. The excellently interpreted music is presented with humor and in between with drily comical commentary by Raabe. A concert full of elegant music, alternately recorded in color and black and white, recorded in the atmospheric Admiralpalast in Berlin. (SvdP)more
