Would Ronan Keating be familiar with the work of Trijntje Oosterhuis? The Boyzone singer is certainly a well-known part of our national pride, because together they released a single in 2004. A few years later, Oosterhuis sang his way through the Burt Bacharach Songbook with great verve. The CDs and DVDs that were released were sold well in the Netherlands and discussed with great appreciation. This
… may have been a source of inspiration for Keating, because his Bacharach project hardly avoids that of his Dutch colleague. He also made a choice from the most famous songs of Bacharach and his partner Hal David. This CD was also made with the cooperation of the old master (now 82 years old!). The composer arranged some of the songs, which is quite a task when you have to work with such a large orchestra. On the other hand, the American can of course dream these songs. That was not the case with Keating. For him it was a victory to be able to sing the difficult material in a satisfying way. The Irishman is definitely a gifted singer, although his timbre must suit you. Commercially, the CD is in any case a bull's eye in its home country. Oosterhuis also showed him that before. (JE)more
