Becaye Aw, now living in Norway, is a guitarist and singer-songwriter from the West African Fulani tribe. He grew up in the Senegalese capital Dakar and taught himself to play the guitar by listening to the radio and albums a lot. The way he plays the guitar is very similar to that of the kora, a kind of African harp. In his career he has played with musicians such as Baaba Maal, Mansour Seck, Ali
… Farka TourĂ© and many Norwegian artists. The title of his debut album Sibi refers to a suburb of Dakar called Sibikutan. In a rhythmically rippling bluesy style Aw sings and plays both traditional songs and own compositions. The songs are about immigration, homesickness, the problem of polygamy and childhood memories.
