Rebel with hot-blooded music! 50 years after his debut album Angola 72, singer-songwriter Bonga releases his 31st album Kintal Da Banda. In it he looks back in a loving, joyful way on his childhood in Angola, his life full of music and his choice for love and freedom. The album title refers to the courtyard where he gained life experiences as a child and received education from his family and friends.
It was there that values such as sincerity and social conscience were learned and heated discussions about the world and politics took place. Because of his criticism of the Portuguese colonial government and call for independence, he lived as an exile in Europe from the 1970s onward. The almost 80-year-old Bonga commands respect, how he is 'still going strong'. With his unique hoarse voice he performs a swinging combination of African and Portuguese styles, based on the Angolan dance music semba and the melancholy slow version kizomba. (SvdP)more
