Brazilian singer, guitarist, songwriter, poet and journalist Chico César has enjoyed modest fame in his own country since the 1990s. He not only writes for himself, but has also created songs for artists such as Maria Bethânia. Meanwhile, he has also built a wide discography solo. Vestido De Amor was recorded in France, with French, Brazilian and African musicians. From the floral pink album cover
… of Vestido De Amor, every tooth spontaneously shows cracks, and musically it seems to go the same way at first. The album opens with sweet Brazilian pop with modest acoustic guitar accompaniment and vocals. Later, he unpacks with rhythmic and danceable songs that are overtly brimming with festivity. His music is a versatile mix of pop, MPB (Música Brazil Populeira) and rock, but not all the musicianship comes off well. The choruses are downright false at times. Everything about the record sounds enthusiastic, but Chico César sometimes seems out of sorts in his enthusiasm. (JV)more
