This warm-blooded Cape Verdean music calls for love for your fellow human beings. The versatile Mario Lucio is a well-known figure: in addition to being a singer-songwriter, writer and painter, he was Minister of Culture in Cape Verde from 2012 to 2016. He is the founder of the group
Simentera and wrote songs for
Cesaria Evora and
Mayra Andrade, among others. The album Migrants is a tribute to
… migrants, who put their lives on the line in hopes of a better life elsewhere. For the first time, he put the production in the hands of a European: the young Portuguese multi-instrumentalist and producer Rui Ferreira. The result is an interesting blend of Cape Verdean styles with Afro-Cuban, Portuguese and modern sounds. The singer with the fragile, modest voice talks about his childhood in Tarrafal (Santiago), about enriching encounters while traveling, about Buddhism and the Yoruba religion. The music is a celebration of being human with faith, hope and friendship. (SvdP)more
