Moon and wind is the first solo album by Huong Thanh, a Vietnamese singer who has lived in exile in Paris since 1977. Thanh has never limited herself to traditional music from her region. On the one hand she sings traditional music from all parts of Vietnam, on the other she is open to modern (world) music. In the album "Moon and wind" the Vietnamese songs sung by Thanh are accompanied on modern
… instruments such as piano, synthesizers and electric bass guitar as well as the 'world instruments' zither, cajón (a flamenco percussion instrument) and Berber drum. The accompanying music was created by the 'Vietnamese' jazz musician Nguyên Lê, who was born and raised in Paris, which is why the music sometimes reminds a bit of (quiet) jazz in terms of harmony. But Thanh's vocals are unmistakably Vietnamese. She has a very graceful voice and a beautiful diction, both serene and sensual. (SvdP) _more
