After the then fifteen-year-old Gil Semedo reached the final of the Soundmixshow in 1989 as Michael Jackson, little was initially heard from him. Well, his single Sweet Honey made it to the charts of youth channel FunX for a while, but he remained unknown to the general public. Because the singer managed to sell more than half a million CDs in Portuguese-speaking Africa and played at the biggest
… festivals, he was confident to try his luck in the west as well. Semedo makes no bones about it: he wants to conquer the world with his infectious cabo swing, a slick mix of Cape Verdean rhythms, R&B and Western pop music. He has full confidence in a happy ending, as the title of this album shows: Nha Vitória (My Victory). The CD is produced by Ramiro Mendes of the Mendes Brothers and is also released on his MB Records label. International attention seems to be guaranteed. (MH)more
