From 1983 to 1990, Ousmane Touré was the lead singer of the Senegalese family band Touré Kunda, a popular band that experimented with mixing African and Western music styles. In the United States, Touré toured with Manu Dibango and his song Africa Bamba, performed by Carlos Santana, became an international hit. After a ten-year retreat to be there for the kids, he resumed his career in 2000 with
… the solo album Lolo. For the album Avenue du Monde (2006), the Together Production label collected the best musicians around Touré. Together they created songs varying in music style, line-up and tempo. The result is a true fusion of African elements with Western styles such as soul, jazz, tango and Latin. Besides traditional instruments such as kora, djembe and marimba and common western instruments such as electric guitar, bass, drums, piano and saxophone even show a bandoneon, flute and duduk. The question and answer game between singer and backing choir, catchy kora melodies and super groovy beats make Avenue Du Monde a continuously captivating listening experience. Touré makes a big impression with his powerful, smooth and clear voice. (SvdP)more
