Who didn't get a lump in their throat when Roxeanne and little Dré sang at their father's funeral in a packed Amsterdam ArenA? Papa's talent was certainly there and so was record company EMI. The label asked Rox and Dré to choose a number of songs from their father to sing their own CD. That was still a job, because Hazes left about four hundred songs. Rox and Dré did not choose well-known hits,
… but unknown songs from their father. A love song like Waar Ben Jij comes, now children are singing it, to stand in a completely different light. 'Living without you hurts' the young Dré sings in that song. You feel what he means, even if you haven't lost a loved one. Producer John van de Ven got 'tears in his eyes when we unconsciously do the same as daddy', brother and sister write in the booklet accompanying the CD. And indeed, the voices of Dré Junior's voice resemble those of his father. Little boys grow up. (PdK)more
