After the successful album Ode Aan Jou (2013) on which Willem Barth joined forces with Marianne Weber, the Achterhoeker is on his own again on Verboden Liefde. The collaboration with Weber earned him rave reviews and Barth the arduous task of meeting the increased expectations on Forbidden Love. He partially succeeded. The cheerful album opener Lees Je De Ogen Van Een Vrouw is original and catchy,
… as is the more swinging Die Ene Blik, in which the similarity with Wolter Kroes can be heard clearly. On Die One Blik en Lieveling, however, he fails miserably and drowns in cheap clichés. Fortunately for Barth, he manages to make up for a few things with the successful title track and the surprising closing track Tell Her Nothing. He's on the right track but occasionally seems to miss Weber's experience and guidance a bit. (BvdV)more
