When Irish hard rock guitarist Gary Moore embraced blues in 1990, this immediately resulted in his best-known song, the Work Vitamins classic Still Got The Blues. In the meantime, he was also allowed to share the stage with his great influences, the guitar legends Albert King and Albert Collins. Their spirit resounds on this album that has to offer exactly what the title predicts. In addition to
… songs by Elmore James and Willie Dixon, Moore signs for five of his own compositions and solid blues rock pounders are alternated with worn ballads. Moore is remarkably good at voice and with his guitar playing he explores the boundaries of the virtuoso. Fortunately he never exceeds this and rather opts for atmosphere and the raw originality that blues should contain. With this he stabs his fellow countryman, the late Rory Gallagher to the crown. But above all, Old New Ballad Blues is a lively and inspired blues record. (MR)more
