Hein van de Geyn produced this album (which was recorded in Max Bolleman's Studio 44) and the whole sounds really surprising. This CD contains many original compositions of the band members and only one standard (Darn That Dream). The Belmondo Quintet stands for unconditional swing, whereby it becomes clear that their inspiration lies in the African-American tradition in jazz. With this formation
… it becomes clear once again that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. The brothers Stéphane (trumpet, flugelhorn) and Lionel (tenor sax, soprano sax, alto flute) Belmondo are energetic, together with pianist Henri Florens, bassist Thomas Bramerie and drummer Jean-Pierre Arnaud. We will hear a lot more about this French formation in the future! (JW)more
