Renee Rosnes can be counted as one of the most sought-after pianists. She played with JJ Johnson, Joe Henderson, James Moody and Jon Faddis, among others. For several years she has been touring as a band leader. After her debut "Ancestors" on Blue Note, the worthy successor "As we are now" is now out. On the album, on which she is assisted by Chris Potter on saxophone, Christiaan McBride on bass
… and Jack DeJohnette on drums, you can hear that Renee Rosnes is not only a very gifted pianist, but also a skilled composer. She wrote six of the nine tracks herself, including the beautiful title track (with a trio), "Black holes" and "Bulldog's chicken run". The other three songs were written by Walt Weiskopf, Chris Potter and the late Tony Williams. With "Pee Wee" by Tony Williams, First recorded in 1967 by the Miles Davis Quintet on the album "The sorcerer", concludes this fine jazz CD. (JW) _more
