Jazz clubs can have a major impact. The Blue Note, Ronnie Scotts, the BIM Huis, Nick Vollebregt's Jazzcafé and of course the hip New York clubs Knitting Factory and Smalls. Pianist Brad Mehldau was one of the first musicians to perform in Smalls, immediately setting the tone for a particular jazz sound. Brad Mehldau and guitarist Peter Bernstein were also the first musicians to break out of Smalls'
… limited scene. Warner Music contracted Mehldau and his albums made it clear to the listener that this was a virtuoso pianist. Also on his new CD Songs, The Art Of The Trio, Vol. 3 Mehldau allows the jazz lover to enjoy his unprecedented talent again. Together with his regular bassist Larry Grenadier and his regular drummer Jorge Rossy, he recorded four jazz classics (ao Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered and Young At Heart), five own songs and one cover from Radiohead (Exit Music). This is a great jazz trio that deserves the attention of any true jazz lover. (JW)more
