Less than four months after "Seven days a week", Joris Teepe releases a new CD, this time under the name Joris Teepe Quartet. The Dutch bassist plays "Firm roots" together with tenor saxophonist Don Braden, pianist Renato Chicco and drummer Steve Altenberg. The record was recorded in one day, after a small tour of 10 days. Besides some standards ("My funny Valentine", the bass / sax duet "(There
… is) No greater love") the gentlemen played a number of their own pieces. Teepe wrote the South American "Garuto do sul" and "Fried roots", Braden "The vail jumpers", Altenberg the ballad "Impressions of summer" and Chicco "Trapezius". Teepe's qualities are best heard in the solo John Coltrane piece "Mr. PC". (W.vd.Z.) _more
