Flutist / keyboard player Eric Mertens has made the perfect follow-up to his first CD "Spleen" with "White Worker". The core of each of Mertens' eleven compositions is a rhythmic interpretation of a repeating theme (think Philip Glass). However, the result is also close to pop music through the use of choruses and vocals, and is given a jazz layer through the improvisation and the use of instruments
… such as bass, drums, saxophone, trumpet and trombone. It is remarkable that despite all these layers and complex structures, the music remains very transparent and accessible. A jewel of a record. (RM) _more
