State Of Monc operates in the field of tension between the constant factor of electronic music and the freedom that real musical instruments bring. Musical virtuosity, placed in the landscape of the extensive sound spectrum of the electronics, leads to a soundtrack for a hectic metropolis. Beautiful broad melodies supported by an intense computer programming that expresses the turmoil of city life.
A metropolis in which the ghosts of Miles Davis and Weather Report haunt permanently. While their debut Hand To Mouth was still a close-knit formation, for Clippertron the group was reduced to a duo. Trumpeter Arthur Flink and programmer Hielke Praagman work out the first ideas in the studio, to later have them implemented by the original state of Monc setup. The more efficient working method and approach of pop producer Michel Schoots (Ilse de Lange, Kane and Di-rect) makes Clippertron easier to listen to than its predecessor. No longer drawn-out pieces, but compact statements that hit exactly the essence in a short space of time. State Of Monc is the future of Dutch nu jazz. (AD)more
