Stanton Moore's funky drum sound is strongly influenced by his hometown New Orleans. In the early nineties he took his first professional step in music with the funk band Galactic with which he still regularly records and tours CDs. He spends the time he has left on solo projects, among other things. Emphasis! (On Parenthesis) is his fourth solo performance and was recorded with guitarist Will

Further listening shows that the Stanton Moore Trio likes to work with different atmospheres in which the drums are woven through like a funky thread. If there is such a thing as restrained film-noir funk with a biting surf guitar, it can be heard on Wissions (Of Vu). The afrobeat of (Smell My) Special Ingredients comes from the guitar rather than from the drums that just don't want to move from New Orleans. The ominous (I Have) Super Strength seems to come from a film fragment that takes place in a dark alley. (AD)more
