Hiromi Uehara took her first lesson at the age of six with a piano teacher who urged her to not only memorize the technical aspects of the music, but above all to rely on her intuition. The talent was already evident then, because a year later she was accepted at the Yamaha School Of Music. At the age of fourteen she performed in what was then Czechoslovakia with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra
… and three years later she played with Chick Corea. Her debut Another Mind (2003) achieved gold status in Japan and Hiromi has been inundated with prestigious jazz awards ever since. She is inspired by a long list of pianists, but especially by people with a lot of energy, such as top athletes Carl Lewis and Michael Jordan. That energy is therefore fully reflected in her work. Place To Be splashes in all directions. Not only on an energetic level, but also in her musical universe in which jazz, classical and rock seem to have no boundaries. (AD)more
