New Cool Collective is celebrating its eighteenth birthday with Eighteen. Holland's most energetic jazz formation has grown up, but shows that the dogs have remained young and have not lost any of their tricks yet. As energetic as ever, they festively pass through a repertoire that seems to know no boundaries. Surf, Latin, a ska performance of Chopin's Death March, gospel, afrobeat, rock, blaxploitation,
… klezmer, soul and of course jazz merge into one sound. The urge to play as loud as possible has given way to a nuance in which volume nevertheless plays a prominent role. Nothing but good about the mutual interaction; the teamwork is as close as it can be after eighteen years of collaboration. There is no way to get in between. (AD)more
