The Belgian quintet Stuff has something to do with pigeons. Their second album, the beautifully titled Old Dreams New Planets, therefore does not fit in any style. The members of Stuff mainly come from the Belgian jazz scene and were brought together by drummer Lander Gyselinck ( ). This one can, very cleverly, drum like a derailed drum computer. His hectic rhythms and grooves form the basis for
… an album full of energetic and often good-natured electronic music. Hip-hop, idm and future jazz sound through, but also the electronic 80s funk where, for example, the American bassist likes to wallow in. At the same time Stuff sounds too electronic to take root as jazz and too complex to fill a dance floor. Stuff mainly sounds over the top on all fronts. It is all special and clever, but that is not yet a recommendation. (MR)more
