Fabiano Do Nascimento is a Brazilian guitarist who has been living in Los Angeles for years. In addition to his collaborations with artists from the jazz and hip-hop worlds, on his solo albums he seeks out experimentation from within the Brazilian guitar tradition. Previous albums were partly tributes to guitarist
Baden Powell, in which his playing style could be clearly heard. Ykytu - 'wind' in
… the language of the native Brazilian GuaranĂ people - shows Do Nascimento from a more abstract side. The lion's share of the album was recorded with guitar, lead pedal and sparse vocals. The repetitive melodies and rhythmic figures, combined with the generous use of reverb and echo make Ykytu sound like an ambient record. The Brazilian blends the warm sounds of his homeland into an atmospheric whole with a great sense of taste. Ykytu sounds like a light, warm and dry late summer breeze, which almost unnoticed brings a smile to the face of any company. (JV)more
