It's been a while since we heard
Phronesis, the British based and highly acclaimed modern jazz trio. Pianist and saxophonist Ivo Neame keeps himself busy in the meantime and is mainly looking for a broader perspective. He plays in Marius Neset's band, but also released the beautiful and experimental duo album
Multiverse (2020) with drummer
Jim Hart. For Glimpse Of Truth, however, he opted for a
… large and international ensemble, based on the idea that nobody had much to do during the lockdowns of the 20/21. With no fewer than three saxophonists and two drummers in the ranks, Glimpses Of Truth comes close to a big band sound. However, Neame mainly uses the ensemble to bring his compositions to life, effortlessly blending fusion, post-bop and even minimal music. It's amazing how, despite the large number of musicians, this always sounds transparent and flexible. (MR)more
