Although he has shown many sides of himself in his career, which has spanned more than six decades, saxophonist and flutist Charles Lloyd knows better than anyone how to strip his notes of all trappings and reduce them to a pure and essential sound. … meat is gone, only the bones remain'. In his trio with guitarist Bill Frisell and double bassist Thomas Morgan they are all on the same page. In both the original pieces and the Latin ballad Ay Amor, none of the three musicians plays a note too many. Everything seems to be based on intuition, which in the case of this experienced trio amounts to a collection of warm and atmospheric pieces.
