That saxophonist "the other" Bill Evans is completely at home in the realm of jazz rock and fusion we have known since his collaborations with Miles Davis in the first half of the 1980s. Since then, he has shared the stage with an illustrious string of pop and jazz musicians, including Mick Jagger, Andy Summers and John McLaughlin. He has also never hidden his love of blues and Americana, as evidenced
… by his album Soulgrass (2005), on which he combines bluegrass and jazz (a mix that certainly did not please everyone). In this respect, guitarist Robben Ford seems to be cut from the same cloth as Evans; both jazz and blues are idioms in which he knows how to express himself effortlessly. With their joint project, they previously recorded The Sun Room (2019). This time Evans and Ford are joined by Darryl Jones (who played bass with both Miles Davis and The Rolling Stones) and drummer Keith Carlock. As to be expected, the gentlemen serve us a steaming serving of groovy jazz and blues rock, with soul never far away in the solos and melodies. (JV)more
