Drummer and composer Efraim Schulz-Wackerbarth has German blood, but was born and raised in Australia. He studied in Enschede, New York and Amsterdam, among other places, eventually settling in the latter as an all-round drummer and drum teacher. Between Two Worlds came about through a campaign on Voordekunst and was eventually released by ZenneZ Records. Musically, he does find himself between more
… worlds than two. It is almost a sampling of his abilities as a composer and drummer, with the third stream of One Who Brings The Light transitioning into the primary swing of Walk The Walk. Not much later, fusion vibes make their appearance on Shout It Out. The quartet masters it all, and pianist Daan Herweg in particular fulfills a starring role with his rich playing. Too bad Between Two Worlds is a bit too much of a good stew of styles in which the quartet does not show its own identity. (MR)more
