Texan singer / songwriter Jesse Dayton has already recorded three albums with his band The Road Kings, but is hardly known under his own name. His only solo album so far (Raisin 'Cain) dates back to 1995. Since then he has mainly played on other albums, such as Waylon Jennings, Lucinda Williams and The Supersuckers. At the end of 2000 the never-expected successor Tall Texas Tales was released in
… America and that album was so well received that it was also released in Europe more than six months later. This CD could well make the name Jesse Dayton a household name, because besides being a great singer and guitarist, he also turns out to be a great songwriter. Moreover, he has an excellent backing band in which Brian Thomas excels on pedal steel, banjo and dobro. In addition to some traditional sounding country songs, there are also a few nice trips to other genres. There is a cheerful waltz (One Year, Three Months, A Week To The Day) and a jazz-like song complete with clarinet and tuba (Molasses Girl). Other highlights are the heart-rending ballad Angels Touch and the nice and heavy rock song Every Now And Then. (MvP)more
