Country singer Emmylou Harris's music career, started in the 1960s, seems to be endless. In the 1990s, Harris surprised country audiences with the album Wrecking Ball (1995). With this fine selection of covers by North American musicians such as Neil Young, Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Steve Earle, Harris moved away from classic country and sought a new musical direction. The album Red Dirt Girl (2000)
… proved again (after The Ballad of Sally Rose, 1985) that Harris is an excellent (co-) songwriter. Fortunately, she continues to develop in this and she also sings almost all self-written songs on the album Stumble Into Grace. With the help of producer Malcolm Burns, the country-influenced songs are immersed in a warm atmospheric bath of folk, indie pop and world music. Linda Ronstadt, Jane Siberry and the McGarrigle sisters contributed to the album. Stumble Into Grace is an album full of tenderness and grace. (SvdP)more
