The title of this remake of Glen Campbell's last studio album unintentionally takes on a somewhat morbid connotation. The famous American country singer - known for such hits as Wichita Lineman and Like A Rhinestone Cowboy - suffered from Alzheimer's disease and wanted to shine for as long as he was able. Thus was born
Ghost On The Canvas released in 2010, featuring songs and collaborations from
… indie artists such as Jakob Dylan, Paul Westerberg, Billy Corgan and Robert Pollard. An equally baroque and quirky swan song by Campbell, who died in 2017. On this remake, more lauded admirers of Campbell like Eric Clapton, Brian Wilson, Sting and Carole King duet with the late singer's vocal recordings or Campbell's ghost. A nice gesture with sometimes extraordinary results, but which at the same time nowhere exceed the original album. So starting with the original is the motto. (MR)more
