since the breakthrough (1994) it has been well known that singer / guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong writes good pop songs. They were packed in fast leather punk jackets up to and including from 1997, but that has now changed with Warning. The Californian trio can now simply call itself a rock band, because the high tempos and the hard guitars have disappeared. They have made way for a milder sound,
… here and there acoustic guitars, a harmonica, accordion and even a nice silly Farfisa organ. The humor, the energy, the biting nasal vocals of Armstrong and the good songs have remained. Rock-solid plate. (WvdZ)more
