The South German formation The Notwist was founded at the end of the eighties and initially focused on punk. At the time of their third album 12 (1995) the band started to experiment more and more. On her fifth album Neon Golden, she seems to have found the perfect mix between avant-garde, alternative pop, mechanical beats and warm-blooded vocals, giving the music a bit like New Order. Compared to
… other experimental bands such as Autechre and Photek, you immediately notice how melodic the songs of The Notwist are. As strange and bizarre as the effects are, the power of the song always comes first. A good example of this is the song Solitaire, which contains a very special sample by soundtrack composer Michael Nyman. The most beautiful songs are at the end of the CD: Consequence, the title track Neon Golden and my absolute favorite Off The Rail. All in all, The Notwist has made an adventurous album with Neon Golden that contains music that you do not encounter every day. (MvP)more
