The Scottish band Idlewild was formed in December 1995. The members shared an enthusiasm for alternative rock and punk bands such as Sonic Youth, The Pixies, The Smiths, REM and Black Flag. After a period of fanatic rehearsals, the band developed their own sound, in which these influences were clearly reflected. The band was soon noticed by the English press and they provided support-acts for
… Catatonia, Placebo, Manic Street Preachers, Garbage and Blur. This is again Idlewild's third album, on which a development is continued, which was already visible before. The emphasis is increasingly shifting from punky noise and explosive excesses to decent rock songs. The single You Held The World In Your Hands ensured that the band entered the English top ten for the first time in its existence. With The Remote Part Idlewild is definitively joining the premier league of British pop music. (MS)more
