Def Leppard was one of the most successful English heavy metal bands of the eighties. Over the years she released quite a few records of which this X is the tenth. While there was no question of heavy metal in the strict sense of the word in the eighties, because the band opted for a slick and commercial sound, the form of music Def Leppard focuses on in 2002 is more likely to be called softpop /
… rock. . X contains 14 neat songs, where every now and then a vain attempt is made to get out of the corner hard and fast (Four Letter Word), otherwise especially risk-free songs like Long Long Way To Go and Torn To Shreds. The inveterate Def Leppard fans have something new to listen to with X, but Def Leppard will certainly not acquire a new audience with this. X is neither bad nor good, but mostly not very sensational. (RWK)more
