The American band The Get Up Kids has been around since 1994 and has released two records so far, of which Something To Write Home About is even considered one of the best in the emo genre. On The Get Up Kids' latest CD On A Wire, the up-tempo, sometimes vicious, meticulous songs from that album have been exchanged for poppy, subdued whispering songs with only a very limited burst of sound now and
… then. This record proves that the musical progress of a band sometimes inevitably leads to a change of style, as has also been the case with the other big emo band The Promise Ring. Although fans from the very beginning may be a little less happy with this, For the objective listener On A Wire is simply a wonderful pop album that shows an adult band in top form with songs like Wish You Were Here and The Worst Idea. Let's say small kids grow up. (RWK)more
