Beth Nielsen Chapman is better known in the Netherlands as a songwriter than as a singer. She wrote the song World Of Hurt, which was chosen by Ilse DeLange as the title song of her debut CD (1998). Other artists who have recorded songs from her include Faith Hill, Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood, Bette Midler, Bonnie Raitt and Elton John. … to her name, of which the self-titled Beth Nielsen Chapman from 1990 is probably the best. Deeper Still, released in 2002, is not inferior to this album. She wrote and produced the album herself and received vocal assistance from celebrities such as John Hiatt, John Prine, Bonnie Raitt, Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris. Her songs tell recognizable stories about everyday life and are always well composed. Conclusion: Deeper Still is a beautiful album by one of the best singer / songwriters working in Nashville in 2002. (MvP)more
