The symphonic rock group Camel was founded in 1972 by Andy Latimer (vocals, guitar, flute), Pete Bardens (keys), Doug Ferguson (bass) and Andy Ward (drums). They reached their artistic peak in the late 1970s with albums such as Moonmadness, Rain Dances and Breathless. After that, fights and staff changes made the Camel albums of the eighties and nineties hardly worthwhile. In 2002 Camel celebrated
… its thirtieth anniversary with the release of A Nod And A Wink. Andy Latimer is now the only one of the four original members left in the line-up. He is therefore the big man on this album, a kind of concept CD that looks back on the past thirty years. Also musically, A Nod And A Wink is a fitting tribute to three decades of Camel. Everything that made this band great is amply covered in seven long tracks. Camel was never the most original band in sympho and prog rock land and again it looks a lot like Genesis and Pink Floyd. But the quality of the songs is reasonable and Andy Latimer's bluesy guitar playing can even be called excellent. The fans will be very satisfied. (MvP)more
