Canadian singer Celine Dion has become the queen of soft pop in the course of the nineties. She became a star in Canada with her French-language repertoire. Gradually she switched to English songs, after which the rest of the world fell for her powerful and expressive voice. After her husband and manager René Angélil was struck by cancer in 1998, she took a period of rest to devote herself more
… to her family. Meanwhile, Angélil has been declared cured and Dion has become a mother. After four years, this is the long-awaited new album from a well-rested Celine. The repertoire is familiar: melodic mainstream pop that is pleasant to listen to. As a singer she is still growing. She occasionally still lashes out in the old-fashioned way, but has generally started to sing a bit more subdued. That may sound less spectacular at first: if Dion manages to hold back a bit, the emotional impact of her singing is greater. The bonus DVD contains two new tracks, the video clip for the single I'm Alive and a preview of the shows that Dion will give in Las Vegas in 2003. (MS)more
