As an amateur singer, you can reverberate in the shower with a little bathroom. The American band My Morning Jacket is taking it a bit bigger and has exchanged the bathroom for an empty swimming pool. At least, that's the first thing that comes to mind when listening to their new CD It Still Moves, on which Jim James's vocals echo as if they were recorded in an enormous empty space. It Still Moves
… is again characterized by James' voice and the combination of alt.country and indie rock. This time the guys from Kentucky - who are more famous in the Netherlands than in their home country America - take it a bit harder and rock a lot in songs like One Big Holiday and Dancefloors. But of course James also gets plenty of opportunity to bring out his haunted voice to the full in melancholic bluesy songs. It Still Moves is an extremely successful CD, still successful in its own country. (IV)more
