Tony Colman, the brain behind London Electricity, made his first appearance in the early nineties, during the heyday of jazz dance, with Izit, a band that made use of jazz and funk influences and scored a modest hit in those circles with Stories . He took this jazz baggage, as well as colleagues Peshay, Adam F and LTJ Bukem, with him to the drum'n'bass scene, where he founded the successful Hospital
… Records. Where the majority of the drum'n'bass producers use a purely mechanical sound, this label distinguishes itself from the rest by its extremely melodic approach and working with genuine song structures. With Billion Dollar Gravy, London Electricity goes even further into this than with Pull The Plug, the 1999 debut. In itself this is the only way in which drum'n ' bass can be pulled from the underground. Especially Different Drum and the vocal contribution of Chicago house singer Robert Owens would certainly not look out of place in the charts. (AD)more
